Hikes

Walk, breathe, explore

The maquis and its rugged terrain, bordered by the Mediterranean, offer the perfect setting for a stroll. On foot, take the time to admire the scenery, breathe in the scents of the maquis, and enjoy the panoramic views of the Gulf of Lava.

Two trails are accessible directly from the vacation village or the beach, depending on your fitness level and what you’re in the mood for.

The Pelusella Tower

Want to stretch your legs? From Lava Beach, a narrow trail runs along the coast and winds its way up through the scrubland to the Pelusella Tower, an ancient Genoese tower perched on the northern tip of the gulf. Today, only a few ruins remain, but the view is the real reward. The gentle climb winds above crystal-clear water, filled with the scents of immortelle and broom. Up there, the panorama opens up onto the Gulf of Lava. It’s best to set out in the morning or late in the day, when the light is at its most beautiful and the heat is less intense, and stay for the sunset if you’d like. After your hike, the beach awaits you for a well-deserved swim.

What to bring: sturdy shoes, a hat, and water—especially in the summer.

La Punta Castle

For a change of pace from the beach, set out to explore the Château de la Punta, perched high above the Gulf of Ajaccio. As you walk along the trail, the fragrant maquis gradually gives way to a spectacular view of the bay and the Corsican mountains. Built in the late 19th century by the Pozzo di Borgo family, the castle is unique in that it was constructed using stones from the Tuileries Palace in Paris. A remarkable story, set against a landscape that has retained its authentic character. Be sure to bring sturdy shoes, water, and your camera: here, the walk is just as much about the views as it is about the history.

Guided Hikes

During peak season, the village also offers excursions led by professional guides, allowing you to discover the Corsican mountains, their iconic landscapes, wildlife, flora, and traditions. It’s a wonderful opportunity to explore the island in a different way, in complete safety and with guidance from local experts who are passionate about the region.

Good to know: The region’s particularly pleasant climate makes it possible to hike for much of the year. Spring and fall offer ideal conditions for fully enjoying the landscapes and scents of the maquis.
